Special Registration Consideration for 2022
For District Convention 2022 ONLY, the Capital District of Key Club International has decided to allow day passes to DCON for clubs where attendance at overnight and/or out-of-state events is prohibited by their school administration or county school board. Students will still need an adult chaperone at the Convention.
The cost for the day pass will be $90 and will include Friday night activities, Saturday activities starting with divisional caucusing, and Sunday activities starting with the House of Delegates - including the buffet breakfast. We will not be doing single-day tickets; the cost will be the same no matter if you only attend Saturday or one other day. The cost of the day pass covers expenses the Capital District incurs aside from the hotel room and Saturday's continental breakfast. For example, fixed costs for the keynote speaker, souvenirs, A/V, awards, and decorations.
Clubs purchasing day passes for members and chaperones are still encouraged to register together on one registration form: https://fs11.formsite.com/CapitalKeyClub/DayPass/index.html
The deadline for this form of registration will be March 18, 2022.
The first question many people are probably asking is: Why is this limited to schools that cannot attend overnight and/or out-of-state field trips? Our hotel contracts are created on the premise that we promise to fill a certain number of hotel room nights and meet food minimums. When these terms are met, the hotel allows us use of their meeting facilities for no cost. The Hyatt Regency Crystal City is willing to work with us for this year to lower our obligation, but we still have a large amount of hotel rooms to fill! In 2023, our contract will revert to its normal minimums. We also believe that the District Convention experience is better if a student gets to attend all three days of the convention. Each day has its own distinct purpose and is equally important. There are other factors that we need to take into consideration as well, such as equity for all regions. This is vital since we do not move our convention around frequently.
If your club has not ever attended DCON or it has been more than 5 years since you last attended and wish to attend only for the day, contact District Administrator Joe Stankus at [email protected] for more information.
